Roger first came to fame playing for Castleford's team in ABC television's inter-town series for junior players. He watched Castleford from an early age and dreamed of playing for his home town team. He played some matches for them, as an amateur aged 16 and signed for Cas. on his 17th Birthday in 1964.

See and here how he quickly achieved some of his major goals in the game of Rugby League. He was the recipient of one of R.L.s most famous nicknames' Roger the Dodger', this was due to his elusive style of play.

At 5'4" and 10 stone wet through (Roger's own description) he proved the adage "if their good enough their big enough" and he proved an inspiration to generations of smaller lads who wanted to play the 'greatest game'.

Hull K.R. signed him from Castleford, who had the Famous Hepworth and Hardisty half back partnership, for £6,000 on 7th August 1966. He went on to make over 400 appearances for Hull K.R. and 28 appearance for Great Britain, including staring in the famous, ashes winning 1970 touring team.

He became player coach and later coach of Hull K.R. and was, probably one of the most liked and respected players ever to play the game.

In this 2-1/2 hour interview Roger tells us about his career the highs, the lows and the humorous moments along the way.
